The concert will finish with a selection of well-known carols. This is a concert not to be missed and is sure to sell out quickly, so early booking is advised.

The Guinness Choir is making their collaborative Christmas concerts something of a tradition, with Paul Brady joining the choir as a special guest in 2016.

About a Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten

A Ceremony of Carols Op.28 was originally written for treble voices and harp. This arrangement for SATB voices is by Julius Harrison. It was conceived on a transatlantic voyage in 1942 as Britten returned from America. He uses a selection of medieval texts contained in The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems, many of which in their simplicity convey a strong message. As with so much of Britten’s choral music, he displays an innate affinity with the words. The harp accompaniment on the evening is provided by Cliona Doris.
